Gellar's role in Cruel Intentions changed her upcoming Netflix movie Revenge.

Cruel Intentions was released in 1999, directed by Roger Kumble,

and tells the story of two arrogant stepbrothers, Kathryn (Geller) and Sebastian (Ryan Phillippe).

Cruel Intentions received mixed reviews upon its release,

but has since become a cult classic, with particular praise for the performances by Geller,

Phillip, and Reese Witherspoon, who play Annette, the principal's daughter.
